ABOUT KATHRYN
Kathryn specialises in counselling, psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), transactional analysis and hypnotherapy to help clients find greater happiness in their lives. Kathryn has an internationally recognised Certificate in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, as well as, a Bachelor of Arts including studies in psychology, writing and communication. She is also a member of the Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association.

INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING
Kathryn uses a combination of techniques to help clients let go of fear, depression, addiction and anxiety through individual counselling (or relationship counselling where appropriate). Kathryn helps clients to find inner peace and happiness through:
• Helping clients to understand their current emotions, thought patterns and behaviours through CBT and Transactional Analysis;
• Letting go of habits and thoughts patterns which do not serve them well,
• Using hypnotherapy to establish change at the subconscious level, working with deep emotions to reframe past events and change current thought patterns and behaviours; and
• Establishing healthy thought and behavioural patterns in line with the client’s wishes.

In particular, Kathryn specialises in helping clients overcome distress patterns that may result in anxiety, panic attacks or feelings of powerlessness, or relief behaviours (Eg. smoking, comfort eating, drinking or avoidance of situations). By working with the client, and using the CBT Map to find out triggers, feelings and thought patterns, the client will find they have greater empowerment about their behaviours and reactions. The client is then able to work these new desired behavioural outcomes into their subconscious through the use of Hypno-psychotherapy.

Importantly, Kathryn uses hypnotherapy to ensure that the thought and behavioural changes become permanent and are achieved quickly. And while counselling, psychotherapy, transactional analysis and CBT are great for understanding what is happening in our lives, these modalities are limited because they do not deal with the subconscious mind which is where our thought patterns and behaviours originate from. Have you ever felt you know what changes you want to make in your life, but still feel a block about making them? Well, this is why. Hypnotherapy deals directly with your subconscious and therefore faster, more permanent changes take place. When someone experiences hypnotherapy, what is really happening is that new neural (brain) pathways are being created, creating new thought patterns or behaviours, releasing mind blocks, and creating a healthier mental state. And this is also why hypnotherapy is now one of the primary research tools for neuroscience. Neuroscience has also recognised that hypnotherapy is a safe, but powerful therapy, which allows the client to feel in control at all times as they allow themselves to be guided by the therapist towards beneficial and long-lasting change.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING HYPNOTHERAPY?
During Hypnotherapy, the client allows him/herself to enter a state of relaxation called hypnosis or trance, during which there is a high degree of focussed attention on the core issues of behaviour. Hypnosis and the induction of hypnosis is simply self-hypnosis, and it is not something that is forced upon the client by the therapist, but a process that is allowed by the client as he or she goes into a deep relaxation. The client is able to come out of hypnosis at any time they want to. During hypnosis, the mind relaxes, lowers its guard by minimising interference from the critical judgmental conscious mind and the therapist is then able to communicate directly with the subconscious mind. It is the subconscious mind that controls our habits and automatic behaviours, and therefore, by working with it on a psycho-therapeutic level, the therapist helps the client to create new thought and behavioural patterns for themselves. This process is completely safe, and the client is fully aware of everything happening, and is able to leave the hypnotic state at any time. The client is not asleep, just extremely relaxed.

RELATIONSHIP COUNSELLING
Kathryn also specialises in relationship counselling for couples. Couples will be seen in both combined sessions and individual sessions, where a discussion about the primary issues will take place. Kathryn also helps clients to understand their own personality profiles and their personal history filing cabinets to gain an awareness of how these aspects affect their current relationship. By including individual sessions for couples, it also ensures that each person feels heard and is able to fully express themselves. All sessions are completely confidential, and individual sessions will not be discussed with the other partner unless with permission.

FEES
Kathryn has recently reduced her fees in order to acknowledge the difficult financial circumstances that many people are facing at the moment. Please note that the following fees are current as of 9th August 2011.

Please also note that due to the type of therapy Kathryn practises, occasionally sessions of more than one hour may be required for more in-depth work, especially related to regression hypnotherapy. During these sessions, time will be charged for at the hourly rate.

Unfortunately, psychotherapy and hypnotherapy are not claimable under Medicare. However, various professional organisations are in the process of lobbying Medicare to include psychotherapy and hypnotherapy. However, it should be noted that the normal rate for psychologists is $236 per hour, and so considering that rebates never cover the whole amount, after Medicare rebates a client would end up paying at least $100 per hour anyway.

Currently, there are a few private health insurance providers who offer hypnotherapy rebates. Please check with your health insurance provider to determine if you are covered.

CANCELLATIONS
If you are unable to attend your session, you must give at least 24 hours notice. If you do not give 24 hours notice, then fees will be charged for the session. For between 12 and 24 hours notice, 50% of the fee will be charged. If less than 12 hours notice is given or you do not show up at the session, then the full fee will be charged.
