What is Ear Candling?
Ear candling, also called ear coning or thermal-auricular therapy, is intended to assist the natural clearing of earwax (cerumen) and "toxins" from a person's ear, help in regulating pressure in the ear and assist with ear related issues such as sinus, congestion etc.
The process of Ear Candling involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The candle is then lit and the slight vacuum that is formed draws the impurities from within the ear out into the ear canal. This process is known as the chimney effect. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. A small amount of ear wax is also removed during the treatment.
The healing effect is based on the simple laws of science. Under-pressure (vacuum), vibration and warmth are created in the ear by the lit candle. This gently massages the eardrums, stimulates the sinuses and vascular system and also aids the lymphatic system.

Why should I get an Ear Candling session?
Ear Candling is a pleasant non-invasive treatment that can help to promote an enhanced state of health. It is used primarily to relieve conditions in the head and ear area, such as sinus problem, compacted ear wax, tinnitus and headaches or simply as an enjoyable means of relieving stress. What to expect during an Ear Candling session?
Before you have your Ear Candling treatment you will be given a full consultation and asked a number of questions regarding any problems that you may have with your ears. This is to help assess whether Ear Candling will be a safe treatment for you to have and to find out what your expectations of the treatment are. Your Therapist will then explain the process to you to allay any fears you may have about the procedure.
Your Therapist will then use an instrument called an Otoscope to view inside your ears to examine the ear canal and ear drum to ensure it is safe to candle.

You will be then be placed in a comfortable position lying down on your side. The candle will be gently placed just inside the ear canal and lit. The candle will be held firmly in place by the therapist.
You will experience a fire crackling sound as the candle burns and possibly some popping of the ear. You will also feel a gentle massaging sensation to the ear drum and some heat as the candle burns lower. When the candle has burned it is carefully removed from the ear and extinguished. The entire process is then repeated for the other ear.
Once both ears have been treated you will receive a soothing lymphatic massage of the neck and face to encourage lymph flow.

How does lymphatic massage complement ear candling?
One of the goals in ear candling is to assist in clearing the Eustachian Tubes, which are tubes in our ears that connect the middle ear to the back of the nose. These tubes are one of the drains of the lymphatic system within our body. The lymphatic system is responsible for helping to remove fluid and waste from our body and for regulating our immune system. It is a clear fluid that circulates throughout our body much the same as blood does. One of the effects of ear candling is that it stimulates the lymphatic system, so in combining lymphatic massage (a delicate form of massage that stimulates the lymphatic system) with the candling we are able to clear blockages, eliminate toxins and decrease congestion from the ears and sinuses much more effectively.
